It's a testament to the writing behind Merrill of Dragon Age 2 that I can really disapprove (and even hate) some (most) of the things she does, yet I never dislike her. I will say, though, that on one playthrough I denied her the super special elf knife and man did she get vicious!
Also, I love Dragon Age. (That's for anyone visiting here for the first time.)

I enjoyed Merrill as a character, but it really bugged me that I was forced to accept her into my little family. From an RP sense I envisioned my character as having a true hatred for blood magic thanks to some events in the first DA. But I felt really handicapped when dealing w/ Merrill in DA2. Or it would have been nice to have an option to "redeem" her away from blood magic. Who knows... maybe in DA3.
Argh, my browser jumped as I clicked and so I deleted Kirk Hamilton's comment instead of approving it, but it was:
"Also a testament to Eve Myles and my love of Torchwood, because yeah dude, damn. Especially towards the end there. Talk about a thankless character arc.
This picture, however, is entirely awesome. I do not find myself wanting to shout things like, "What the hell why are you doing this you seem so smart about everything else!" at it."
Yeah, you're pretty much forced to take her. It was satisfying on my super mage-y playthrough to tell Fenris to eff off.
So I guess even if you're total rivals with Merrill she still...does everything...in Act III? Oh, Merrill.
I've only just finished Act 2 of DA2, but I'm getting the vibe that shacking up with Merrill might have been a bad thing...
Curse Bioware (and Eve Myles) for making her so damned cute. I mean, even Isabela calls her 'kitten'.
LOL, great comments. All i can say is a love DA2 - a lot. I'm on my 3rd playthrough right now, in ACT 3. I'm sure i'll play it even more if just to experiment with being a total dick to some characters.
deb
I got all dickish once and handed Isabela over...man, it did NOT feel good! :D
